OUR STORY
The question of permanent residential care for adults with cerebral palsy whose families are no longer in a position to care for them at home, owing to age, sickness or death, has been a constant concern of our parents and consequently of Cerebral Palsy Greece for many years. As a first step towards this goal, we have been operating a Respite Care Unit at the Open Door Centre since 2004, which offers hospitality to 8-10 people with cerebral palsy of all ages, every week.
The Respite Care Unit, with the generous sponsorship of the Vodafone Foundation and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, has proved to be one of the most successful programs of Cerebral Palsy Greece and a valuable source of experience for the establishment of the “FOTINI” Residential Home.
But we would never have achieved the opening of “FOTINI” without the generous donation of a beautiful two-storied family house by Professor Yiannis Schinas, followed by the financial support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation that covered the costs of the necessary renovation and extension works on the building.
Finally, in 2012, running expenses for two years were co-financed by Greece and the European Union - European Regional Development Fund, through the ESPA Fund (2007-2013).
